When thinking of the ‘best' white Indian wine, the first name that comes to mind is Sula Sauvignon Blanc, through some quite like its Chenin Blanc. But say Red and one does not think of Satori Merlot but Grover's La Reserve, perhaps because of its full mouth feel, ripe tannins and interesting finish.
This may soon change. Sula has introduced a couple of months ago, a Cabernet Shiraz blend reportedly made from its homegrown grapes. Not-yet sold in Delhi but soon to be introduced in July this wine is already in other markets. On being available here, it is expected to become the most favorite red wine of Delhiites. Sula Satori, incidentally, is Merlot based bulk wine imported from Chile and bottled in Nashik. Although more palatable (and more expensive) than the French bootlegged wines, it finds resistance at Rs.450 when the La Reserve is available at Rs. 430. One hopes it is priced right to give value to the price conscious consumer for his daily dosage of this health tonic.
