Italian Trade Commission released the first- time ever, ‘The Italian Wine Guide' at a special function organized today at the Italian Cultural Center . Speaking at the event, Mr. Giancarlo Lamio , the Italian Trade Commission said, ‘this is the first time such a Guide has ever been published in India and as a pioneering effort it might not have the complete information due to difficulty in collection of data but ICE is proud to be a part of this historic move.
The Guide has been conceptualized and compiled by the Indian Wine Academy . It lists 75 producers offering 312 wines as on the cut-off date of October 1. The guide lists the wines describing the grapes, region, its taste description and how it matches with various foods. Vegetarians have been given a special attention. Serving temperatures, body and dryness are other characteristics that have been given special attention.
Some of the major restaurants in Delhi and Mumbai have been included with their wine lists and prices. Each of the wine has been indexed so that one can easily go back to that page and read all about the wine. The prices are also indicative of how expensive the wine is in a particular restaurant to help the customer choose the wine before going there.
Therefore, a person could consult the Guide before deciding where to eat or which wine to order and what food to eat with that particular wine.
ICE had also invited Mr. Marco Sabellico, a wine expert and a journalist who is a senior editor with Gambero Rosso in Italy to talk about Italian wines. He gave an overview of the Italian wines, grapes and regions. His talk was very lucid, informative and people showed a lot of interest in the QA session. The lunch that followed had Placido Pinot Grigio white from Banfi and Col di Sasso red.
The Guide priced at Rs.300 will be given complimentary to a select group of wine lovers in Mumbai and Delhi . It will also be released officially in Mumbai at Carleone Restaurant at Hotel Intercontinental, Marine Drive on November 16 th .
