Casillero del Diablo from Chile selected Wine of the Week by WS

Concha y Torro is the biggest producer of wines in Chile. Starting from bulk wines and entry level wines like Sunrise it produces quality single vineyard wines also. Casillero di Diabolo is a medium level wine from Maipo Valley surrounding Santiago, the Capitol of Chile, known for Cabernet Sauvignon varietals. The 2002 vintage that had rated 87 points by the world famous American wine magazine, Wine Spectator has been selected as the Wine of the week. Dark and full- bodied wine with fresh acidity has rounded and supple tannins that should mellow down during the next year or so. About 5 lakh cases produced will ensure it is available in plenty. At U.S retail price of $10 it is a good value for money. It won't be surprising if it is selected as one of the value picks for the year 2003. Delhi Wine Club has featured this wine on a couple of wine tastings in conjunction with the Embassy of Chile and has been an instant hit with the members. Either our members are becoming 'professionals' or it just proves our point that if one activates the taste buds properly and learns to interact with the wine in one's mouth, one can tell the difference between a decent wine and a cheap table wine and enjoy wine a lot more.
