already available and is an old favourite. Global is eying the world famous Tio Pepe` from Gonzalo Byass. José Govantes, export manager of Hidalgo in Sanlucar, makers of the world famous La Gitana label confirmed to me when I went to visit their vineyard and the winery that some Indian importers have shown an active interest in their sherry; we should have La Gitana available soon in India. Personally, I found their Manzanilla ma Sherry Amour. Incidentally, all these brands are top notch.
I was horrified to learn from a senior official from Harvey's that they are planning to try matching Indian food with different sherries. While a dry Fino at 15-16% alcohol might be palatable as an aperitif or with snacks, I question the wisdom of paring a 20% alcoholic liquid with out hot foods. Next, we may be hearing of the 'perfecting pairings' of single malt whisky and cognac with our food. Granted that some PX's and Cream will be great companions for gulab jamuns and jalebis. PX is already world famous for enhancing the taste of ice cream with only a few drops.
A world of sherry is waiting to be explored. A wide spectrum of flavours is possible. The fortification of wine makes the drink macho. And one thought it was a ladies drink! And do I change myself to 7/16 or 7/20? Only time and arrival of more Sherries will tell!

Sherry labels are really diverse and fascinating. Check out the Gallery of posters which I was able to capture at Vinoble. Please excuse the photographic quality. But the download should give you the idea.
