Available in retail at an MRP of Rs.1650 in Delhi and up to 25% less in Chandigarh, Haryana, Maharashtra due to lower excise, it is a serious food wine for the connoisseurs and novices alike. Though drinkable now, it can still age for a couple of years more.
When the Spanish producers want to enter the Indian market, I often tell them that they have to face the existing competition from Italy, France, Chile, Australia and Torres. This is one of the labels that exemplifies what I mean.
Lot of plum and berries on the nose with a hint of toasty oak due to a year in the oak casks, full on the mouthfeel, with persistent and intense fruity flavour, balanced tannins make this wine a serious one with red meats and rich gravies. Serve at 14-16° C.
It would be a great combination with mutton biryani, tandoori barra kababs, sikandari raan, or even with mushrooms, palak paneer. Try it with makki ki roti and sarson ka saag. Of course, it is a natural match with a shank of lamb or meat steak, game or hard cheeses following the dinner. Also chorizo and Iberian ham would go hand and glove with the wine whose tannins are juicy but dominate..
MRP Rs.1650 in Delhi may sound reasonable until you realize it is available for around
Rs.1150 in Chandigarh.
